Promoting peace through music

World Peace The only things we hear on the news lately are what country is getting bombed, who hates who, and the sheer number of people dying every day. There is too much discrimination, madness, and anger circulating through our world right now. We have soldiers dying every day for our country in a war that could be stopped with peaceful actions. Instead, we have become oblivious to what is going on around us. Music has always tried to make people more aware of today’s problems. Johnny Depp said, “Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can’t.”

The only things we hear on the news lately are what country is getting bombed, who hates who, and the sheer number of people dying every day. There is too much discrimination, madness, and anger circulating through our world right now. We have soldiers dying every day for our country in a war that could be stopped with peaceful actions. Instead, we have become oblivious to what is going on around us. Music has always tried to make people more aware of today’s problems. Johnny Depp said, “Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can’t.” It has been the intention of singers and songwriters that mutual respect and understanding of our differences is the key to world peace. The world seems to be addicted to violence and we can’t seem to stop war or innocent people dying.

The song, “Where Is The Love?” by the Black Eyed Peas explains the question many people ask about our country, why are people so violent and where are the good people? In the song it says, “I think the world addicted to the drama only attracted to things that’ll bring you trauma.” This quote is explaining that the world cannot seem to come to world peace and something dramatic is always happening. Whether something new is going on in the war or if an innocent woman is killed on the streets, it never stops. A second quote states, “If love and peace are so strong why are there pieces of love that don’t belong?” There are such hateful people in the world and this quote is trying to get across that if there is so much love in the world, why is there still hateful things occurring? The Black Eyed Peas sing, “Not respectin’ each other, deny thy brother, a war is going on but the reasons undercover.” They are pointing out that there is no understanding of one another, which would be the first step towards world peace. Also, it is saying that the reason for the war is undercover and no one really knows the underlying reason. People should start acting in a more peaceful way towards each other instead of just standing back and letting it happen.

In the song, “Waiting On The World To Change” by John Mayer it explains how our generation is expecting the people in charge to make changes in the world when in fact, we can be making changes by just standing up to issues we feel passionate about. John Mayer sings, “Now we see everything that’s going wrong with the world and those who lead it we just feel like we don’t have the means to rise above it and beat it.” Again, this quote expresses that young people don’t feel like they have a say to change anything about the world. A second quote says, “Now if we had the power to bring our neighbors home from war they would have never missed a Christmas no more ribbons on their door.” This is saying that the people in the world want to bring the troops home and let them be away from all that violence. A last quote states, “It’s not that we don’t care we just know that the fight ain’t fair so we keep on waiting, waiting on the world to change.” This quote is describing people who think that they don’t have a chance in changing anything, so they are standing back and waiting for others to do something that actually have power. Picturing a world with peace and love throughout is pretty difficult to think about nowadays and this issue has been a problem for quite a while. In the song, “Imagine” by John Lennon it explains his dream for a perfect world with love and wants people to join him in his hunger for world peace. In the song he sings, “Imagine all the people living life in peace.” Although a very simple line, it speaks volumes. Imagine if our country actually had less innocent people dying and no more war. Life would be so much easier for everyone. A second quote states, “I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one.” This quote means that he may seem a little crazy but he dreams of a world coming together and working together on issues that we can’t seem to work on right now. A last quotes reads, “No need for greed or hunger, a brother hood of man, Imagine all the people sharing all the world.”

John Lennon is trying to get across that we can stop all the bad things in the world if we just imagine a loving world and to be respectful to all people. Music can explain very serious issues about the world well because they get the point across and can call people to action. World peace is expressed through many songs because it needs to happen. Also, news tends to travel faster and impact a lot more people through music. , Too bad people can’t always be playing music, maybe then there wouldn’t be any more wars. If we all put aside our flaws and focus on what is best for each other and the world, we will accomplish a world full of love, not violence.…
